Job introduction

Longhill High School  are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and hardworking Teaching Assistant apprentice to join the Learning Support team at the School. The role will be for 37 hours term time only contract. In the role 30 hours of your time will be working directly supporting the students at Longhill High School. This will allow you to learn and practice the skills you will gained from the remaining 6/7 hours of training you will receive from your apprenticeship provider, mentor and developing evidence for your assessment

On completion of the Apprenticeship , apprentices are awarded a Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning

The apprenticeship programme will offer you the chance to develop your skills and get ahead in your career. This role is ideal for those who genuinely have a passion for helping children, particularly with learning difficulties. Candidates who are appointed will receive full support and training from colleagues and teachers and the training provider.

The apprentice will be allocated a mentor at the school who will work with the provider to ensure that all learning opportunities are utilised.  Regular reviews and training sessions will take place throughout the apprenticeship to ensure that learning is happening and on track.

The apprentice will follow the Teaching Assistant Level 3 standard  and will be supported by the East Sussex College Group.

The apprenticeship salary £17,710 pro rota (actual salary £16,058 36 hrs term time only)

About the role

The Teaching Assistant Apprentice will work with   SENCO team to support pupils some with educational needs and emotional vulnerabilities. The primary role of the Teaching Assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils’ learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress. Promoting self-belief, social inclusion and a high self-esteem play an integral part to pupils’ well-being; ensuring pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing, safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum. They are good role models, act with honesty and integrity, take part in team meetings; contribute to planning and class activities. Promoting Fundamental British Values through spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and positive behaviors’ are crucial in contributing to improved pupil progress and development.

Pupils Learning and Development

  • Learn to understand the need to provide feedback to support and facilitate an appropriate level of independence. 
  • Learn to understand appropriate levels of learning resources to identify and help address weaknesses, consolidate strengths and develop individualised expectations.
  • Lean to recognise child development and the transition between key stages. 
  • Learn to recognise the use of technology to support learning.
  • Learn to understanding how pupils learn and develop

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
