Street name plates

Street name plates are important so that we can find where we are and where we want to go quickly and effectively. Street name plates also help emergency services to locate you and your street as quickly as possible.

The council is responsible for repair and maintenance of street name plates when this becomes necessary. This may be due to accidental damage, vandalism or normal wear and tear.

On new developments in the city, the developer is responsible for putting up street name plates that meet our requirements.

To report damaged, missing or illegible street name plates please complete the online street name plate report form.

Why is street naming and numbering important?

Appropriate naming of streets and numbering of buildings forms the basis for identifying a property. This is also essential for the efficient functioning of emergency and postal services, as well as for the convenience and safety of the general public.
