How do I report the removal of an historic street light or paving?

The designation of a conservation area does not provide any additional protection to street lighting or paving surfaces where these are the responsibility of the council. Some street lights are statutory listed buildings and do benefit from protection. Some other historic street lights are locally listed but this does not give them any additional legal protection.

Does the council provide grants for historic buildings?

There are currently no grants available from the council for works to historic buildings.

Depending on the nature of the property and works you propose, opportunities may be available from Funds For Historic Buildings or through Historic England (usually for grade I or II* buildings at risk).

How do I report possible unauthorised development to an historic building?

If you believe works have been undertaken without the necessary consents, you can report this to the Planning Enforcement team.  Please see the Planning Enforcement webpage for more information.
