Alcohol Scrutiny Panel (completed 2014)

Panel summary

The panel aimed to complement the work of the Alcohol Programme Board by focussing on specific areas of local alcohol policy. These included the role of alcohol-free events; responsible retailing; promoting responsible drinking, and reviewing the Statement of Licensing Policy.

Publicly Accessible Toilets (completed 2013)

The panel was set up to consider the future provision of publicly accessible toilets in Brighton & Hove in relation to: the future of the service; future funding; types of provision; improving general access to the service as well as improving access to this service for particular need groups.

Scrutiny panel summary (completed 2013)

Publicly accessible toilet provision isn’t the most glamorous topic, but it's an issue of great importance to a wide range of people in our communities. As well as enabling residents to live full and active lives when out and about in the city, easy access to decent public toilets also benefits visitors and supports our local economy.

The Scrutiny team at Brighton and Hove City Council is formed of two committees:

This co-ordinates overview and scrutiny work in the council.

It is responsible for setting up Scrutiny Review Panels and directly scrutinises decisions and services relating to place, communities, resources and finance.

Trans people suffer discrimination in accessing services and have particular vulnerabilities in relation to safety and welfare. They were asked to share their experiences to help inform recommendations for action.
