What does your service do?
The Youth Service aims to support young people (aged 13 to 19, or up to 25 with SEN) to achieve their best life chances and outcomes. The Youth Service works to address the needs of vulnerable young people at the earliest possible stage; building a clear picture of the young person's needs, creating and providing programmes of support, information and guidance in ways and settings that they are most likely to access.

Who does your service provide for?
Targeted support to young people aged 13 to 19 (up to 25 with SEN) at level 1 (low to vulnerable need) and level 2 (vulnerable to complex).
How can I start using the service?
Referrals will come in from both internal and external sources. That includes the social care pathway to CAF cases. All referrals need to go through the allocations process so they can be monitored. All cases will be assessed to ascertain the young persons need and to assist in prioritising multiple needs. This includes recording both sexual health and substance misuse screening
How are decisions made about who can use your service?
Joint conversation with referrer.
All referrals need to go through the allocations process. We also have open access provision where young people can just attend.
How do you communicate with service users and how are they involved in decision making/planning?
Face to face conversation, telephone conversation and written feedback (letter or email).
We have not needed to have process for appeal but if young people were unhappy with a decision it would come to the Head of Service.
We offer day to day feedback, service user group or forum and service evaluations.
As well as Youth Council and consultation events with young people.

The service is making a change in delivery to targeted group work and 1 to 1 support. The group work and the 1 to 1 support it will be based around the young person's needs and what has been identified in the referral. We provide open access provision, young people engage with on a voluntary basis. Workers have awareness that some young people may not feel included or be excluded and will engage with young people in planning programmes to over come this. Along with this we have information about the young people and families in the local area.
What training are the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had or are having?
All youthworkers are professional qualified to degree level or above and will have undertaken as part of this equalities and inclusion training. The Youth support workers are training to NVQ level 2 /3 and again inclusion and equalities work is part of this training. Along with this basic level staff will complete BHCC equalities training and workshops and specialist training provided by specialist services.
