About Alternative Education

The school is responsible for making sure all the necessary checks are made and safeguarding protocols are in place. These checks should be made before the pupil is referred. Then the school can refer pupils to the provider.

Alternative Education Provision can be a successful option for pupils who need support to increase educational engagement. It can also help pupils gain confidence in themselves and their abilities.

The providers base the placements on the needs of the pupil.

As these provisions are mainly off the school site, pupils must attend and turn up on time. They must behave in the same way they would at school. This includes travelling to and from the venue.

The school is still responsible for making sure that the Alternative Provision placement is suitable. Please use this notification form and checklist for guidance when considering Alternative Provision for your pupils
