Home tuition for children unable to go to school
We support children who are unable to go to school due to illness, recovery from an operation or pregnancy and motherhood.
We support children who are unable to go to school due to illness, recovery from an operation or pregnancy and motherhood by:
- providing tuition in maths, English and other subjects where possible.
- providing a link with the child's school so that pupils can follow the coursework that is being used in the classroom.
- where possible help children get back into school.
How do pupils get our support?
Home tuition is usually for pupils who cannot go to school because they are ill and have been away from school for more than six weeks. For the first six weeks of absence, your child's school will provide work to be done at home.
We also consider supporting pupils who are pregnant if tuition is required in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Tuition may also be available for a short time after the birth, to help the pupil return to school.
Home tuition is not a substitute for school attendance and will not normally be provided if a child has been excluded or has general attendance problems.
Schools, education welfare officers or medical services usually ask for a pupil to have home tuition but sometimes parents contact us directly. As soon as we receive a request we ask for a report from the designated medical officer. Once we have received the medical information we consider whether home tuition is appropriate.
We agree and review home tuition on a half-termly basis. We request a termly updated medical report as part of the review process.
All our tutors are qualified teachers and are only appointed once they have passed police and health checks.
