Some communal waste collections are currently disrupted due to the need for essential repairs to specialist vehicles. Repairs are underway, and we expect to have them back on the road within the next week. Read our full update on communal bin collections.
School appeal - Reception to Year 2
Find out how to appeal a school place decision for children in Reception to Year 2.
About this form
You can use this form if you applied for a place at a school for a child in Brighton & Hove but weren’t successful, and wish to appeal the decision.
Use this form for children in reception, year 1 or year 2.
You'll need to tell us:
- your address and contact details
- the name of the school you would like your child to go to
- your child's name and date of birth
- the school your child has been allocated and the last school they went to
- details of any other children of school age you have
- who will attend the hearing and any special requirements you have
We will then ask for the details of your appeal under either:
- Ground 1 - the admissions arrangements did not comply with admissions law or that they were not correctly and impartially applied
- Ground 2 - the decision to refuse admission was not one which a reasonable admission authority would have made in the circumstances of the case
You can give additional information and upload supporting documents here.
Before completing this form
- read the guidance document on the school appeals page
- make sure that you have all of your necessary information to hand. You will not be able to save your progress when filling in this online form.

What happens after you submit your appeal
When you submit an appeal you'll receive confirmation that the form has been received. We'll arrange a hearing and you will be notified of the date and location of the hearing. A week before the hearing send you a copy of the Admission Authority’s paperwork, and the time of the hearing will be confirmed.
Supporting documents
If you have additional papers to support your appeal, such as evidence from a doctor or social worker, you must supply them 5 days before the hearing. Any papers sent after this date will only be accepted with the agreement of the Chair of the Panel.
