Community Clean Up Days
Find out what our Community Clean Up days are, what happens on the day, how to get involved, and where the next one will be.
What Community Clean Up Days are
We're bringing together a range of council services and partner organisations for a morning of environmental improvement focused on a local neighbourhood. We're aiming to tackle environmental issues, support local businesses and residents, improve community safety, and create a cleaner, more welcoming city for everyone.
This initiative is a partnership effort involving multiple council services and partner organisations, including:
- Street Cleansing Teams
- Environmental Enforcement Officers
- Graffiti Removal Teams
- Bulky Waste Services
- Community Engagement Teams
- Housing Services
- Sussex Police
- Communications and Media Teams
What happens on the day
At a Community Clean Up Day, you can expect our teams on site to be:
- removing graffiti
- deep cleaning the pavements and public spaces
- litter picking and road sweeping
- weeding streets and pavements
- engaging with local businesses to make sure they know their waste management responsibilities and environmental standards
- collecting of before and after photographs and data to record the impact of the event
How to get involved
Whether you're a resident or business, when we come to your area you can help make the day a success by:
- disposing of waste responsibly.
- reporting graffiti, fly-tipping and environmental crime.
- keeping areas outside your properties clean and clear.
- helping with litter picking for as little or as long as you can - we'll provide all the equipment
- speaking with our officers and partner agencies on the day for advice and information
- supporting efforts to maintain a cleaner and safer neighbourhood
Free bulky waste amnesty for local residents
As part of the day, if you live in the direct area you'll be able to dispose of one bulky waste item free of charge by bringing it to a designated drop off point.
It will be one item of bulky waste per household, you'll need proof of address and photo ID, and our staff will be on hand to provide support.
