BLUEPRINT to a greener future

As a city we have made a pledge to cut carbon and contribute actively and positively to becoming carbon neutral by 2030. Moving away from a ‘throw-away society’ to one that minimises waste and pollution is known as a circular economy.

A circular economy keeps products and materials in use for as long as possible and supports the protection of natural resources. We're working with partners as part of a bigger BLUEPRINT project, towards becoming a circular economy with better outcomes for the planet and the population.

Circular Economy Champions

As part of the BLUEPRINT project, we're looking for volunteers to help Brighton & Hove residents reduce waste and recycle more:

  • general recycling
  • textiles
  • electronics
  • food

Our Circular Economy Champions will play an important part in inspiring their local neighbourhoods to change behaviour, enabling people to recycle more and improve the environment.

Get involved

To get involved, you can:

  • share information with neighbours on how they can reduce and reuse before recycling
  • be part of enabling groups in your area to access community funding
  • carry out activities to show people how they can recycle more
  • collect ‘pledges’ on our pledge form to help motivate people into action
  • become part of a network to help people cut down on the amount they throw away – for example repair workshops, sharing resources and ‘swap shops’
  • take action at work – supporting colleagues to recycle by sharing information and helping to set up recycling points
  • help to monitor the success of the project by being part of the team that asks people about their experience of local schemes and knowledge of recycling

What skills you need

You don’t need any previous experience. We’ll provide training and resources to help you with activities.

You’ll get support from our staff and meet other environmental volunteers.
