Street parties and events

Communities across the city are busy planning events to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

We have approved 81 road closures - 79 are for residential street parties and 2 for pubs. We have also received 8 applications from community groups to have events in open spaces, parks and gardens.

Grants of £6,621 have been allocated to a further 16 community organisations to fund their events. Find out more about the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Fund.

Applications for road closures have now closed.

Serving food at street parties

The Food Standards Agency is reminding everyone to enjoy the special occasion safely and follow food hygiene guidance.

Please be aware of those who have food allergens.

Sometimes people assume that vegan meals are free-from animal based allergens (egg, fish, crustaceans, molluscs, milk). This is not always the case as low-level cross-contamination from these ingredients can occur during the production process.

People do not need a food hygiene training certificate to make and sell food for charity events, however they do need to make sure that the food is handled safely.

Following FSA guidance on the 4 Cs: cleaning, chilling, cooking, avoiding cross-contamination will help you prepare a safe feast for the community.

There’s more information and ideas to make your celebration really special on the official Platinum Jubilee website.
