Pride in Place is a long-term national programme putting residents at the centre of local investment. In Whitehawk, the Neighbourhood Board will work with the community to develop a 10 year vision and an initial 4 year investment plan.

Become the Chair of our new Neighbourhood Board
Whitehawk has been selected by the UK Government to take part in Pride in Place, a long-term investment programme offering up to £20 million to improve local neighbourhoods. The funding is designed to put power directly into the hands of local residents, helping communities decide what matters most.
We are now recruiting an Independent Chair to lead the new Whitehawk Neighbourhood Board.
What Pride in Place is
Pride in Place is a 10-year national programme giving communities real influence over how money is invested locally.
In Whitehawk, this could include:
- improving green and open spaces
- creating or supporting community facilities
- strengthening local services and projects
- developing local assets for long-term community benefit
- attracting additional philanthropic and social investment
Our approach in Whitehawk
A new Neighbourhood Board will be created, made up mainly of independent local residents and people who work in Whitehawk.
The Board will:
- listen to the community
- shape priorities for the area
- decide how funding should be used
- help create a 10-year vision for Whitehawk year vision for Whitehawk
This is about long-term, community-led change that creates a legacy beyond the initial investment.

Recruitment - Independent Chair
We are looking for a committed, community-minded person to become the Independent Chair of the Whitehawk Neighbourhood Board. This role will help ensure that residents are at the heart of decision-making for the next decade.
The Chair will:
- champion the community
- bring people together
- ensure local voices shape every decision
- lead the Board as it guides investment in the area
About the person
We are looking for someone who:
- has a strong connection to Whitehawk or similar communities
- is passionate about improving local places
- is committed to fairness, inclusion and community-led decision-making
- can think creatively and listen widely
- can bring people together from different backgrounds
- is open to learning and collaboration
You do not need previous formal leadership experience. What matters most is your commitment to the community and your ability to work with others.
The Chair will be accountable to the Neighbourhood Board and will work closely with the local MP, ward councillors and Brighton & Hove City Council.
The role is mainly voluntary, similar to being a governor or trustee. A small payment may be available to help make the role accessible.
