We only issue traders parking permits to people that need to use their vehicle as a mobile workshop or for those who are unable to carry out their job without access to a vehicle.
You'll need to provide proof of trading to apply.
You must display your traders parking permit in the windscreen of the vehicle.
Trader’s permits are valid in:
- paid parking bays
- shared use bays
- permit holder bays up to 5pm
When you apply, we will verify your vehicle’s emissions and make the applicable charge.
If you need to make changes to your permit, for example, you change your vehicle, you must hand in your current permit and re-apply.
As part of our policy to prevent fraud and misuse of permits, we can ask for proof documents at any time. This includes after we've issued the permit. If you don't give us the necessary information within 14 days we can cancel the permit.
If a permit is lost, stolen, destroyed, de-faced or mutilated, the permit holder must notify the council’s parking service immediately. In these cases the permit is no longer valid.
We reserve the right to cancel a permit if you:
- don't pay for contraventions of parking regulations, this is known as being a persistent evader
- don't follow the terms and conditions
You can be classed as a persistent evader if:
- there are 3 or more recorded contraventions linked to the same vehicle within 5 years
- the penalties due for these contraventions have not been paid in full, have not been represented or have not been appealed against by the permit holder within the statutory time limits
- the representations and appeals for the permit holder have been rejected and they have still not paid the penalties due in full
A permit is issued subject to the relevant Traffic Regulation Orders which may be subject to change in the future.
Temporary permit
If you can not use the vehicle that your permit was issued for, you can apply for a temporary permit.
This allows you to to park a different vehicle for a maximum of 14 days in the same CPZ during the time that the permit is valid.
You can either park:
- on up to 2 occasions during the duration of the permit
- once during any quarterly period if you buy your permit quarterly - subject to a maximum of 3 applications in any 12 month period
If these provisions apply, then a temporary permit will be treated as if it was a permit.
Variation of terms and conditions
By applying for or purchasing any type of permit, the applicant:
- certifies that all the information that the applicant has given in the application process is correct
- accepts the Council’s terms and conditions as varied from time to time together with any terms and conditions stated on the letter to which the permit is attached at the time of issue
- agrees to be bound by and comply with the relevant Traffic Regulation Orders which may be varied from time to time
The Council reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions, application procedures and the relevant Traffic Regulation Orders at any time.
