If you live in a controlled parking zone you can get a resident parking permit which allows you to park in parking bays in your zone.

If you do not live in a controlled parking zone, you do not need a parking permit.
From 3 November 2025, parking permits will be issued digitally. When you buy a digital parking permit, you will not need to display anything in your vehicle windscreen.

If you were issued a resident parking permit before 3 November 2025, you still need to display your paper parking permit in the windscreen of your vehicle until it is time to renew.
There might be a waiting list for a resident parking permit in your zone.
You can use your resident parking permit within your parking zone, in:

shared use bays
A resident permit does not guarantee you a parking space or a space outside your home.
You can't park:
anywhere else
