The Planning Register will not be available all day on Wednesday 19, Thursday 20 and Friday 21 November 2025 due to essential maintenance. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. The statutory planning application consultation duration has already been extended to allow for this period.

Parking fine scam

We have been made aware of a national scam where people are asked to pay parking fines via text. We will never text you to request a payment for a parking fine. We will only contact you about parking fines via letter, or email if you have already provided it to us. If you have any doubts, contact us.

Get help to access online council services

We're running sessions to help improve your digital skills so you can access council services online.

We can support you to log in, find your way around online services, and learn how to build independence to manage your own life admin online.

We cannot complete forms for you or discuss your personal details.

The sessions will take place at Jubilee Library on these dates:

  • 11 November - 10am to midday

Sessions are drop-in. No booking is required.

The council has a statutory requirement to consider economic, social, and environmental well-being in connection with public service contracts. The aim is to get the maximum positive impact for our residents from the millions of pounds spent by the council on public services.

NSL

Below are some of the actions that our Enforcement Contractor, NSL are undertaking with regards to social value.

NSL has partnered with Spear Brighton, a respected charity offering a year-long youth employability program for young adults aged 16 to 24 facing barriers to work or education. Spear combines expert coaching with job skill training and addresses psychological barriers, boosting motivation and commitment among participants.

NSL participates in Spear's "Hire Me" events, where they meet candidates and share role insights. As a result, NSL has successfully hired and supported three long-term unemployed individuals. Additionally, NSL volunteers on the Spear External Panel, sharing industry knowledge and personal career journeys to inspire young people. These sessions provide valuable insights into the working world, helping to set realistic expectations for future careers.

The Council’s Fairness Fund

This year the PCN and Appeals Team has been focusing on social value, and we have been working with our colleagues and enforcement contractors to see how we can provide much needed help to those in need in our community. During the reporting period £65,000 was raised towards the council’s Fairness Fund, supporting grassroots community action. The funds were raised after negotiations with the providers carried out by the chair of the Corporate Debt Board. We are optimistic that a further £20,000 will be secured.

Pay by Phone - Meters for trees

In 2023 to 2024 280 trees were delivered to CityParks as part of PayByPhone carbon reduction initiative, Meters for Trees, to improve the environment. The 140 trees will offset 140 tonnes of CO2.
