Counting traffic in Brighton & Hove

How we record traffic

We record the amount of traffic and cycles at key points around the city.

We use sensors built into the road, that are triggered when a vehicle passes by. There are different counters for motor vehicles (like cars, lorries and motorcycles) and cycles.

Our traffic counters do not contain cameras and cannot record any information that could identify the vehicle (like registration number or colour). They are only used to monitor the patterns of traffic in various parts of the city.
