Payments

Our payment system will be unavailable on Tuesday 20 May between 9:30am and 4:30pm for an essential upgrade. During this time, you cannot make payments on our website or over the phone. Payments by bank transfer, standing order and Direct Debit are unaffected.

Council telephone systems

We are moving to a new telephone system. This may cause some initial issues and disruption to calls while it is being set up. If you have any issues, you may wish to call back at another time. We appreciate your patience whilst the new system is implemented and apologise for any disruption that you may experience.

Websites for young people

When your parents aren’t getting on it can be extremely hard to cope.

Here are some websites that might help you:

  • Voices in the Middle have helpful articles for children whose parents are splitting up
  • NACCC has advice, information and support if your parents have separated
  • Childline have a website and phone number with advice on coping if parents separate

Thinking about your own relationships? BBC Bitesize has some advice for young adults in relationships.

Considering separation

  • AdviceNow has survival guides on the issues you need to understand when separating or getting divorced
  • Resolution family justice professionals work to resolve family issues in a constructive way that considers the needs of the whole family
  • Family Lives' advice on whether to split up or stay together
  • Relate's help for when you decide to separate with your partner
  • Government advice on sorting out the legal side of separation
  • Family mediation is less stressful than going to court and is usually quicker and cheaper
  • Sussex Family Justice Board has local advice for parents considering separation

Phone support

  • Samaritans are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week on 116 123.
  • The Spark have Relationship helpline on 0808 802 2088. You can also view the Spark website for more information.

If alcohol might be affecting your relationships 

The Back on Track project can help families where a parent is drinking too much alcohol. 

Coping with Stress and Alcohol is a free online course for parents who are together

  • BrightPIP is a charity offering parent/infant psychological therapy to support parents to have positive relationships with their children
