Brighton & Hove UK Shared Prosperity Fund Investment Plan summary
All authorities had to submit an Investment Plan to outline how they would achieve the aims of the fund.
This followed guidance in the UKSPF prospectus.
We worked with local partners including voluntary and community sector organisations, business representatives and other key stakeholders to develop an Investment Plan based on existing local strategies and plans.
This was approved by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities on 5 December 2022.
The Investment Plan outlined the challenges the city faces under three priority areas:
- communities and place
- local business interventions
- people and skills support
Communities and Place
Challenges identified under the communities and place priority include the:
- rising cost of living
- changing needs of a growing and diverse population
- impact of COVID-19 and health inequalities.
Opportunities range from investing in community resilience, capacity building and improving the inclusivity and accessibility of spaces, to supporting cultural and tourism recovery.
Local business
Challenges identified under the Supporting Local Business priority include:
- how businesses respond to climate change
- enabling the right environment for successful small business growth
- the impacts of the rising cost of living on businesses.
Opportunities range from accessing the benefits of a circular economy and creating the infrastructure to encourage small business innovation, to supporting businesses to decarbonise their operations.
People and skills
Challenges identified under the People and skills priority include:
- the closing of EU funding streams supporting skills initiatives
- the effects of recession on the employment market
- digital exclusion.
Opportunities range from addressing barriers and inequalities in access to the labour market and increasing digital inclusion, to upskilling residents to support climate action and ensuring access to basic skills training.
