Supplementary Planning Guidance Note no.20: Brighton Marina
Introduction
Supplementary Planning Guidance Note no.20: Brighton Marina (SPGBH 20) is a material planning consideration against which applications for planning permission in the Western end of the marina would be judged.
The SPG comprises two volumes:
Volume 1 identifies the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats inherent in the existing development.
Volume 2 is described as a Development Brief and examines the identified potential for change and provides a framework and Urban Design Analysis within this change can occur.
The main aim of the SPG is:
‘to enhance the marina environmentally, visually, functionally and commercially and to transform it into an exhilarating sustainable location of international quality and renown’.
The key urban design objectives of the SPG are the creation of a successful place which:
- has its own identity
- where public and private spaces are clearly distinguished
- with attractive and successful outdoor areas
- that is easy to get to and move through
- that has a clear image and is easy to understand
- that can change easily
