Two weeks left to apply to be chair of inequality review
We've extended the deadline for applications as we look to recruit an independent chair to lead our landmark inequality review.
In recognising the time and effort required for this important work, we will provide a limited optional remuneration to the chair and panellists for the duration of the review.
Payments would be available for meeting attendance, in order to make the role more accessible.
Those expressing an interest in the role can discuss their individual circumstances with the our Cabinet Office team.
Listening to build a clearer picture
Brighton & Hove face significant child poverty and inequality challenges, with deep local disparities between neighbourhood communities, despite a general reduction in the percentage of children living in poverty.
By listening to residents, especially those with direct experience of poverty and inequality, the review will build a clearer picture of what needs to change.
Strong knowledge and understanding of poverty
Councillor Jacob Taylor, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for finance and city regeneration, said: “We’ve had some really strong applications so far, but also some feedback that the lack of payment might prevent others applying.
“I’m urging anyone who has a strong knowledge and deep understanding of poverty, inequality and their impact on people’s access to opportunities, to apply.”
The role is mainly voluntary similar to a governor or trustee. You will be asked to build trust and work confidently and collaboratively with multiple communities and institutions. It’s a brilliant chance to make a huge difference to our city.
Deadline extended
The deadline for submitting expressions of interest has been extended to 13 March 2026.
The role will run from spring 2026 until the final report is published in summer 2026. It is voluntary, and reasonable expenses will be paid.
Our Cabinet Office will provide support throughout the process to the appointed chair and independent panel of Brighton & Hove residents, recruitment for which will begin shortly.

People who would like to put themselves forward are invited to send a short expression of interest. This can be written or spoken. It should explain relevant experience, how an inclusive and trauma-informed process would be led and any possible conflicts of interest.
