Hundreds more affordable homes for Hove
Work is underway on the construction of 306 low cost homes on the former Sackville Road Trading Estate in Hove.
A site visit was held on 8 April 2026 for Brighton & Hove councillors, alongside representatives from the Hyde Group, Homes England and Moda, to see first-hand the progress being made.
The scheme is being delivered by Homes for Brighton & Hove, a partnership between Brighton & Hove City Council and housing association Hyde. The homes are being built on the northern part of the site, next to Moda Living’s Hove Central neighbourhood.
There will be 183 homes for council rent, which will be let to people in housing need on the city’s housing register. Additionally, 123 shared ownership homes will be available through Hyde.
The homes will be energy efficient, using solar PV panels to reduce energy costs for residents, who will also receive a range of subsidised travel measures including bus or rail passes, bike vouchers, Beryl bike credit and/or car club membership, to encourage use of sustainable travel.
There will also be car club bays, electric vehicle charge points and extensive cycle parking. Proposals include landscaped courtyards with doorstep play equipment, seating and community growing space. Residents will also have direct access to Hove Central’s proposed shops and offices.
Genuinely affordable housing
Councillor Gill Williams, Cabinet Member for Housing at Brighton & Hove City Council, said: “I’m really pleased to see this amazing scheme get underway.
"With thousands of households on our waiting list, this is another example of how the Homes for Brighton & Hove partners are pooling their resources and expertise to build genuinely affordable housing for local people.”
Hyde Group Development Director, Jaime Buckley, said: “It’s harder than ever for people who work in Brighton & Hove to afford to live in the city, so we’re pleased to be able to start building these much-needed homes, nearly doubling the number of affordable homes delivered by our highly successful partnership.”
James Blakey, Director of Policy and Engagement at Moda Living, said: “It's great to see construction progressing on this important project, which will deliver high-quality, affordable homes for local people.
“We're lucky enough to have worked closely with the local community, council and stakeholders in Hove for a number of years, and we understand how important developments like this are in helping to create balanced, mixed-tenure neighbourhoods where communities can thrive.
“As the final phase of the Sackville Road regeneration moves forward, we’re looking forward to welcoming new neighbours to the community.”
The homes at Sackville Road are due for completion in March 2029.
