Helping people with long-term health conditions move more
We officially launched our We Are Undefeatable campaign earlier this month, bringing together local organisations and residents to help more people living with long-term health conditions find ways to be active that work for them.
More than 65 representatives from the NHS, community and voluntary sector organisations, Active Sussex and other local partners attended the campaign’s launch event on Monday 8 September as part of the annual Active Ageing Alliance learning event.
We Are Undefeatable is a national campaign that supports people living with long-term health conditions to move more in ways that suit them.
Through real-life stories, practical advice and local support, the campaign helps people build movement into their daily lives, improve their wellbeing and gain confidence to be active at a pace that suits them.
Local voices
At the event, six local storytellers shared their personal experiences of staying active while managing long-term conditions, including Parkinson's disease, Multiple sclerosis (MS) and osteoporosis.
Their stories highlighted the importance of finding ways to move that are realistic, achievable and meaningful for each individual.
Throughout the campaign, we will be sharing these local stories to inspire others living with a long-term health conditions to not give up on being active.
Movement makes a real difference
Councillor Mitchie Alexander, Cabinet Member for Communities, Equalities, Public Health and Adult Social Care, said: “We know that living with a long-term health condition can make it harder to be active, but even small amounts of movement can make a real difference to physical and mental wellbeing.
“This is why we’re proud to support the We Are Undefeatable campaign, which is all about helping people feel inspired, supported and confident to move in ways that work for them.
“Hearing directly from our local storytellers at the launch event was incredibly powerful, and their experiences will help encourage others to see that being active is possible, whatever their circumstances.
“It has been fantastic to work with partners across the city, Active Sussex and the national We Are Undefeatable team to bring this campaign to life.”
Working together
The campaign has been developed in partnership with Active Sussex and with support from the national We Are Undefeatable team.
It supports the city's Let's Get Moving strategy, which aims to help everyone in Brighton & Hove move more, live well and be healthy.
Residents are invited to attend the next We Are Undefeatable event on Tuesday 29 September and listen to our storytellers share their experiences of being active while living with a health condition.
The event will be part of the city’s Ageing Well Festival, which runs from Friday 25 September to Friday 9 October and features more than 130 events focused on helping people age well, stay connected and enjoy later life.
