Brighton & Hove Pride, the city’s biggest and brightest event celebrating the diversity, joy and unity of our LGBTQ+ communities, takes place this Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August.
Whether you're marching in the parade, dancing at a Pride party, cheering from your window, quietly expressing your truth, or supporting the events and the city to run smoothly over a busy weekend, we wish you a meaningful, fabulous and uplifting Pride.
The main Pride events get underway on Saturday with the Pride Community Parade setting off from Hove Lawns at 11am, followed by the vibrant Pride on the Park festival and the Pride Street Party.
The Pride on the Park festival and the Pride Street Party celebrations continue on Sunday.
Pride’s official fundraiser for our local LGBTQ+ community groups, the Pride on the Park festival, takes place in Preston Park and features dance stages, cabaret stages, live stages, a community area, a family area and a funfair.
For the second year, the Pride Street Party is taking place on Marine Parade and will feature the traditional attractions, including Drag stages and a variety of music zones and bars.
While St James’s Street remains outside of the Pride area and will have no outside bars or music over the weekend, venues will be open as usual and the street will be closed to vehicular traffic to ensure it’s a safe area for people to walk around.
We are working closely with Pride, Sussex Police and our other partners on the security measures, with road closures and additional staff in place to help everyone keep safe.
If you’re attending any of the events, please do allow extra time for searches. And if you notice anything that doesn’t look right, please report it to a steward or a police officer.
A Public Service Protection Order (PSPO) is in place in the city to help manage alcohol-related nuisance behaviour. This will be used if needed to ensure safety and access to the street for the whole community.
The preparations are being carefully planned and constantly reviewed by Brighton & Hove City Council, Sussex Police and Brighton Pride, with a focus on the wellbeing of the public
There are still tickets available for events on both days. Tickets can be bought online in advance at the Pride website or at the box office in the newly pedestrianised area near the Old Steine War Memorial.
Councillor Bella Sankey, Leader of the Council, said: “Pride weekend is one of this city’s largest and most joyous protests and celebrations. It is a collective outpouring of love, unity and solidarity which shows Brighton & Hove at its very best.
“This city has never been a place that asked or expected people to hide who they were. And it never will be.
“As a city we celebrate, but we must also remember the sacrifices made to secure hard-won freedoms, and the very real challenges and barriers so many still face today which still need to be overcome.
“We are proud of our Pride and proud that Brighton & Hove is an inclusive city with a large LGBTQI+ community and a welcoming place for all.
“We work closely with Pride, Sussex Police and our other partners to make sure Pride is a safe place for everyone. But if you do notice anything that doesn’t feel right, please do report it.
“We wish everyone a safe and happy Pride.”
As the city’s biggest celebration and protest, we’re expecting a busy weekend with thousands of residents and visitors joining the festivities.
Many city centre roads will be closed and on-street parking bays suspended for the celebrations.
Bus services will also be affected over the weekend.
There will be a rainbow queuing system in place at Brighton train station and people are advised to allow enough time to get to and from the city as trains will be very busy and people may not be able to board the first service.

Take care of yourself, don’t overdo it and look out for others.
It’s looking like it’ll be a warm weekend, so if you’re out all day, drink plenty of water to and follow the tips to stay safe and keep cool in hot weather.
You can take an empty refillable water bottle into Pride events and there are water points in the park and in the city centre.
Support is available if you need it but remember that health services are extremely busy and make sure you use the right services for your needs.

There’s a huge team effort in place but it may take us a few days to catch up with cleaning in the city centre following the weekend – please bear with us.
