Active Forever 2026 – try out some new moves
If you’re over 50 and want to move more, come and try fun, free taster sessions at this year's Active Forever event.
The annual event - at Moulsecoomb Community Leisure Centre on Wednesday 22 April, from 9.45am to 1.30pm - helps people discover enjoyable ways to be active, connect with others and learn about local activities that support healthy ageing.
It will also kick off this year’s Stay Strong, Steady and Independent campaign which offers a week-long programme of free and low-cost strength and balance sessions across the city.
Councillor Mitchie Alexander, Cabinet Member for Communities, Equalities, Public Health and Adult Social Care, said: “Active Forever is a brilliant celebration of people in our city finding joy in movement.
"Whether you want to try out a new activity, meet local groups or simply enjoy the atmosphere, this event shows how staying active can be enjoyable, social and accessible for everyone. I’d encourage anyone over 50 to come along and get involved.”
This year’s event will host a wide range of activity tasters for different interests and abilities, including Zumba, Swoove, Tai Chi, Bollymoves, Qi Gong, walking rugby, Boccia, day disco, strength and balance, and seated exercise.
Guest speaker Alastair Hignell, former England rugby international, will give a talk on the importance of staying active as we age, and there will be a range of organisations, including Freedom Leisure, Age UK, Mind, Brighton & Hove Buses and the Trust for Developing Communities, providing information and support.
Active Forever has been running since 2012 and is part of the city’s Let’s Get Moving Strategy and ongoing commitment to support people to be active in ways that work for them.
Attendees can drop-in anytime. The venue is fully accessible and there will be free parking and refreshments. Please register in the main hall on arrival.
