£3.1 million awarded by Department for Education to deliver Skills Bootcamps
The Department for Education have awarded us £3.1 million to deliver Skills Bootcamps, focusing on sectors crucial to the Brighton & Hove’s economic growth.
These sectors include digital, early years, hospitality, leadership and management, care services and construction.
Skills Bootcamps, part of the government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, offer free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to develop sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with a local employer.
Skills Bootcamps also aim to help employers in these sectors to fill vacancies with skilled local talent by training unemployed and those seeking training or on low income.
We will begin delivery of our Skills Bootcamps this month.
Improving employment prospects
Councillor Jacob Allen, Cabinet member for Adult Social Care, Public Health and Service Transformation, said: “We are thrilled to receive this funding from the Department for Education.
“The Skills Bootcamps will provide invaluable opportunities for our residents to gain essential skills in key sectors, driving economic growth and improving employment prospects in our city.”
Brighton MET College, part of the Chichester College Group, has been selected as one of the providers for our Skills Bootcamps.
Paul Riley, principal of Brighton MET College, said: “I am really pleased that we will be able to support our Bootcamp learners with access to our outstanding facilities and services, teaching and learning, and with links to local employers across the city in supporting their learning experience.”
