Some communal waste collections are currently disrupted due to the need for essential repairs to specialist vehicles. Repairs are underway, and we expect to have them back on the road within the next week. Read our full update on communal bin collections.
New campaign encourages healthy conversations around public health
We’ve launched a new campaign to spark healthy, open conversations about key public health issues affecting local residents across our city.
The Healthy Conversations – Let’s Talk… campaign will focus on a different health topic each month and aims to reduce stigma, promote local services, and get people talking openly about the health issues that matter most.
Councillor Mitchie Alexander, Cabinet Member for Communities, Equalities, Public Health and Adult Social Care, said: “We want to start a conversation where everyone in Brighton & Hove feels encouraged to talk, learn, and find help if needed – whether it’s for themselves, a loved one, or their community.
“We know that stigma and judgement can stop people from seeking help, push problems underground, and worsen health outcomes. That’s why this campaign is rooted in open, supportive conversations. By talking – and listening without judgement – we can break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create space for understanding.”
What to expect
Our health is shaped by where we live, who we know, and what support is around us. These monthly Healthy Conversations will include:
- Voices from across Brighton & Hove – including residents, support workers, our partners and community leaders
- Details of local services, events and online sessions where you can find out more
- Links to useful advice, information and service directories.
We’ll break the conversation down into four weekly themes:
- Week 1 – The impact on our health - Sharing real-life stories and local data to explore how this issue affects individual wellbeing
- Week 2 – The impact on our communities - A closer look at health inequalities, and how specific groups are affected, as well as the services that are here to support
- Week 3 – The impact on our city - Understanding how this topic connects with housing, work, education, transport, safety and more
- Week 4 – What we’re doing together - Spotlighting the work of residents, services, the council and our partners to make things better
So, join the Healthy Conversation by following us on social media, sharing your story or coming to an event, and let’s talk about it - openly, supportively, and without judgement.
