Help shape the future development of our seafront
We are seeking volunteers to join an independent Seafront Development Board which will help shape a vision and encourage investment in our treasured seafront.
The Rt Hon Lord Bassam of Brighton will chair the new Seafront Development Board, bringing his experience as a previous leader of the council, member of the House of Lords, and recent chair of a parliamentary select committee on the Regeneration of Seaside Towns.
Lord Bassam said: “While significant investment is going towards the rejuvenation of Black Rock, the restoration of Madeira Terrace and the development of Hove Beach Park, there are still large parts of the seafront that need to be brought up to their full potential.
“Learning from other seaside towns and cities, this new board will develop a vision and drive forward plans to improve the seafront.
“To do that we are looking for volunteer board members who can represent local residents or businesses, or with industry experience in business, tourism or culture.
“It’s a great opportunity to make a real difference to the look and feel of our city; to our economy and jobs; and to the seafront spaces future generations will enjoy.
“We want to bring a bit of pizzazz to the seafront. It is the city’s shopfront and councillors want it to fully express the ambition they have for an inclusive and fun place for all.”
Councillor Jacob Taylor, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Finance and City Regeneration, added:
“We all want a seafront we can be proud of, but we can’t bring that vision to life on our own.
“To make sure we can restore the heritage, offer the right mix of venues, events and spaces, and take advantage of new opportunities, we need to encourage investment and innovation from across the city and beyond.”
