Freeze on city parking charges
Parking charges in Brighton & Hove will be frozen for the first time in more than a decade.
As part of the 2025/26 budget proposals, there will be no increase to the cost of council on and off-street parking or parking permits.
The proposal comes as a result of feedback from residents about the impact of parking charges during a cost of living crisis.
As well as the freeze on parking charges, other measures being proposed the next year’s budget include:
- Introducing paid parking on some light touch parking roads to create more flexibility to access nearby public spaces such as parks, recreation grounds and beaches, making better use of available parking space for communities and visitors.
- Refocusing the use of our Traffic Control Centre to support other council services.
Councillor Trevor Muten, Cabinet member for Transport, Parking and Public Realm, said: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to freeze parking charges for the next 12 months. It’s clear that years of steady increases have put undue financial pressure on our residents and visitors during a cost of living crisis.
“We have a clear aim to make parking simpler and fairer for people in Brighton & Hove. The freeze on parking charges and the reduction in one hour parking tariffs mean we’re making it more attractive for people to visit.
“Along with other actions we’re taking, including introducing Park & Ride this summer, new walking and cycling infrastructure and more electric vehicle charging points, we’re giving people real, affordable and sustainable options for moving around the city.”
