There’s a chance for people in Brighton & Hove to find out more about the future of Electric Vehicles (EV) in the city.
A free EV community experience day is being hosted on Madeira Drive on Thursday 3 April between 10am and 4pm.
It’ll be an opportunity for anyone to hear about our plans to expand the city’s EV network of chargers, test drive an electric vehicle and speak to some industry experts.
Find out more about the event.
What’s happening
- A test drive zone where attendees will be able to experience a variety of electric vehicles for themselves
- Expert talks and panel discussions on key topics, such as the benefits of EVs, the future of transport, and the latest charging infrastructure
- Demonstrations of charging options
- A dedicated space for local businesses to highlight their electric mobility products and services.
Among the guest speakers will be Councillor Trevor Muten, Cabinet member for Transport, Parking and Public Realm. He said: “This is going to be a great event and I’m really looking forward to speaking and hearing more about the future of electric vehicles in our city.
“Brighton & Hove already has one of the best EV charging infrastructures in the country with over 500 public charge points. But our ambition to expand means we’ll be adding at least 1600 more over the next 3 years while offering more choice and flexible tariffs for our residents, visitors and local businesses.
“Providing clean, affordable and low carbon energy for transport is essential to achieve net zero in the city.”
Event Director Harrison Hughes said: "I'm excited to welcome everyone to the Charge & Drive event on Madeira Drive.
“This is a great chance for our community to experience electric vehicles, learn about the latest in EV technology, and see how we're driving sustainable transport forward in Brighton & Hove.
“We're here to make clean, affordable, low-carbon transport a reality for everyone."
Supporting Electric vehicle owners and expansion
Last year, Brighton & Hove City Council was awarded a £2.8 million government grant to enable 550 public electric vehicle (EV) charging points to be installed every year for the next 3 years.
Once installed, it will bring the total number of chargers in the city to more than 2000.
On-street charging infrastructure in the city already has the best coverage outside of London and 83% of residents with no off-street parking live within a 5-minute walk of a public charging point.
