Working in partnership to support residents struggling with energy costs
We’re working with SGN and UK Power Networks to increase the support available for Brighton & Hove residents struggling with energy costs.
The partnership is providing an additional £110,000 for a pilot programme to identify and support vulnerable households in energy crisis.
The much-needed additional support is aimed at vulnerable residents most at risk of poor health due to living in a cold and unhealthy home.
As well as providing direct support for households in crisis, the programme offers advice around debt, benefits, energy, carbon monoxide awareness and support clients to sign up to the Priority Services Register (PSR).
The pilot programme will work closely with other frontline agencies, including Citizens Advice Brighton & Hove and East Sussex Fire and Rescue to provide practical support to keep vulnerable people safe and warm at home.
Kerry Potter, SGN's Group Social Impact and Vulnerability Manager said: “We’re committed to keeping our communities safe and warm. By working in a joined-up way with Brighton & Hove City Council, we’re able to reach those who are really struggling to maintain a safe and warm home.
“Through building strong connections we can help vulnerable households get much needed help via their utility companies”
Jo Lomax, UK Power Networks’ Consumer Vulnerability Manager, said: “We are looking forward to providing support to vulnerable households with this initiative as we understand that with the cost of living crisis there is a need for services such as this, and we are committed to provide the necessary support.”
Brighton & Hove Fairness Fund
The additional funding will add to the Brighton & Hove Fairness Fund, set up by the council as part of the city’s Cost of Living Action Plan.
