Successful funding bid to cut emissions and energy bills at Shoreham Port
Shoreham Port Industrial Cluster has been successful in an application to the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plans competition.
The competition is run by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero in collaboration with Innovate UK and UK Research and Innovation. It will support businesses in the transition to net zero, reducing emissions as they switch to cleaner, cheaper energy sources.
Shoreham Port has brought together expertise from partners including the council, the University of Sussex, Ricardo, Adur & Worthing Councils, Barrett Steel Limited, Local Fuels and CEMEX UK.
Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plans competition
The competitive grant supports the development of place-based decarbonisation plans that demonstrate collaboration between closely located industrial businesses and other stakeholders.
Twelve winners have been announced from the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plan competition, who will each benefit from a share of up to £6 million to develop plans for a low carbon future.
This funding will give businesses and partners the opportunity to work together on plans to reduce emissions, learning from each other while also having access to technical advisors to prepare for adopting measures such as using hydrogen or carbon capture.
Working together
Councillor Ty Goddard, Brighton & Hove’s Lead for Innovation, said: “We are pleased to be a supporting partner in this important project led by Shoreham Port and congratulate everyone involved in making a successful funding bid.
“I’m looking forward to our organisations working together to develop a strategic plan for emission reduction within the Shoreham Port Industrial Cluster.
“Our collaboration will support the growth of a low carbon, circular economy, help businesses to reduce their carbon footprint, and aims to improve air quality for businesses and residents in the area.”
Next steps
Shoreham Port will share progress updates as it develops the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plan for the Cluster through its communications channels. The Port’s Sustainability Week 2024, which takes place from 3 to 6 July, will feature interactive sessions, with everyone welcome.
