Share your views on Moulsecoomb playing field
We’re after your views on changing the use of a school playing field to sports facilities for community use as part of the plans for a new community hub and more than 200 council homes in Moulsecoomb.
The Moulsecoomb housing and community hub project is an ambitious scheme which represents a significant regeneration opportunity for Moulsecoomb and Bevendean, with the aim of improving the services and facilities for local residents.
The proposals are to develop a community building and new homes on land currently used by the Moulsecoomb north and south hubs, the 67 Centre and the surrounding area.
Services and facilities that could be located in the hub include a GP Surgery, Moulsecoomb Library, youth centre, adult learning and a community café.
The ambition is also to provide a high quality public realm as part of the development, including a skate park, and a 7-a-side 3G football pitch.
We’re currently in the process of looking for contractors for the construction. We hope to award the contract by November, and work on site in early 2025.

To include the playing field off Hodshrove Lane in our plans, we’ll need to submit an application to the Department for Education to change the use of the school playing field to sports facilities for community use.
As part of this process, we’re gathering your views on the proposed change of use.
The survey is open until Sunday 21 July and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
We’re also holding a drop-in session to get residents’ views between 3pm and 6.30pm on Monday 8 July at the Moulsecoomb Community Leisure Centre, Moulsecoomb Way, Brighton, BN2 4PB.
Developed with communities
The design of the project was shaped by residents’ views following a series of ‘planning for real’ sessions held in early 2020.
More than 200 residents attended the sessions and gave feedback on what they’d like to see and any potential concerns.
Views given included the facilities and activities residents would like to see in the hub, the type of housing, transport and the public realm.
