Improving the car park at Withdean Sports Complex
Work starts next week to improve the main car park at Withdean Sports Complex.
The work, taking place from 4 to 8 March, will include removing the barriers, freeing up access around the car park and repairing potholes.
Existing spaces will be relined and 3 minibus spaces, 4 accessible spaces and 7 parent and toddler spaces added.
Preparing for new facilities
The car park is being improved as the centre prepares for the new 3G pitches, padel tennis courts and soft play facilities which will all open later this year.
As the centre gets busier, a car parking charge of £3 will also introduced for drivers staying longer than 3 hours to help free up spaces for centre users.
Visitors to Withdean Sports Complex and the Sportsman pub will be able to extend their three hour stay free of charge by speaking with the sports centre and pub management staff.
Signs in place
While work is carried out, parts of the main car park will close, and parking will be limited to restricted areas. Signs will be in place to assist drivers.
The main barrier will be closed at the end of each day to prevent overnight parking and obstruction to work being carried out the following day.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused, particularly on 4 March when noisy machinery will be used to dig out the heavy metal posts.
Improving safety
In addition, to improve safety for pedestrians crossing the road to visit the sports complex, a new built out crossing point is being installed at the junction of Tongdean Lane and Withdean Road.
Work is scheduled to start on March 4 and take approximately 4-5 weeks to complete.
A diversion will be in place for the first week of the work with three-way traffic lights being installed until the crossing is completed.
