With the city’s economy forecast to grow, we need to ensure that there is enough employment land, as well as buildings, in the right places to support businesses to create new jobs.
We have launched a consultation to hear the views of residents, local businesses and those working in building design and construction, which will help shape future development in the city over the next 15 to 20 years.
Through the City Plan 2041 consultation, you can give your views on areas such as supporting a sustainable economy; housing and accommodation; amenity spaces; transport and roads; sustainability and the natural environment; and building a healthy city.
Councillor Mitchie Alexander, acting cabinet member for Culture, Heritage and Tourism, said: “Our new City Plan will contain the planning policies to guide future development. This will include where new employment spaces, industrial estates and hotels are located.
“To support growth in our economy and create new jobs we need to make sure the city has the right facilities to continue to attract tourists and conferences.
“How can we ensure the city remains an important visitor destination?
“Do you think there are certain areas of the city where short-term holiday lets are more appropriate than others?
“And how should we support the night-time economy?
“To help shape the plan, we want to hear your views.”
Giving your views in the consultation
Our City Plan consultation runs until 20 January 2025. You can read more about the challenges we face and give your views online through our Your Voice website.
As part of the consultation, we are running an online webinar about how we can support economic growth, deliver the right type of employment floorspace and support culture and tourism.
To register for this free event, which is taking place on Wednesday 27 November at 12.30pm, please visit our consultation website events page.
During the consultation period, council officers will be answering questions in person at events in libraries across the city. You can find full details of these on the consultation website events page.
Printed copies of the consultation document are available in all libraries and council customer service centres, with details of how you can comment by email or post, if preferred.
