Funding secured to continue running Youth Employment Hub
Our Youth Employment Hub will be running for another year following a funding award from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
The Youth Employment Hub is run by the council in partnership with the DWP to support young people as they navigate their paths towards education, training and employment.
The hub opened in June 2021 to provide a safe and welcoming space for all young people aged 16 to 25 in Brighton & Hove who are not in work, education or training. Over the past 3 years, the Youth Employment Hub has supported more than 1,700 young people.
Services and activities
From sector-specific jobs and apprenticeships fairs, to cooking and art classes, yoga and mental health workshops, the Youth Employment Hub provides a wide range of opportunities for young people to explore career paths.
Regular employer drop-ins, recruitment events, and career information sessions also help connect young people with the job market in a supportive environment where they can learn and grow.
A number of DWP Work Coaches are based at the hub to help provide young people with one-to-one guidance and mentoring to find work placements and training opportunities.
Local partnerships
The Youth Employment Hub has partnered with local organisations, charities and businesses, working collaboratively to ensure that Brighton & Hove’s young people are able to access a wide range of opportunities and resources.
Additional tailored support is also available for young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) through the Amazing Futures programme, which is run in partnership with local charity Amaze.
No young person left behind
Councillor Emma Daniel, Cabinet member for Children, Families and Youth Services, said: “I’m delighted that the DWP has agreed to continue funding the Youth Employment Hub for another year, helping to ensure that no young person in Brighton & Hove is left behind.
“Over the coming year, the Youth Employment Hub will continue its vital work, expanding services and partnerships to reach even more young people across the city and empowering them to build brighter futures for themselves.
“We will continue to listen to our young people and adapt our support to meet their interests and the needs of the local economy to reflect emerging industries and evolving job opportunities.
“This will allow us to stay at the forefront of youth employment, providing young people with the skills and opportunities to thrive in a rapidly changing world.”
Award nomination
Earlier this year, the Youth Employment Hub was nominated for the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards in the ‘Public/Public Partnership’ category and achieved a "Highly Commended" status.
This accolade recognises the hub’s innovation and dedication to youth employment outcomes in Brighton & Hove.
