COVID-19 is still with us, anybody can be infected and pass it on to others. Although for most of us the infection is likely to be mild, the virus can make some people feel very unwell.
Some people are still at considerable risk of severe illness, particularly people 75 years and older and those who have a weak immune system (immunosuppressed people).
COVID vaccination spring booster
The COVID-19 vaccines give safe and effective protection against severe illness and hospitalisation. The spring booster programme will offer the vaccine to people who are most at risk of severe illness, and people who are eligible can now book an appointment.
The National Booking System is open for bookings, vaccinations will be available through walk-in and booked appointments at pharmacies and GP practices.
People eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine include:
- adults aged 75 years and over,
- residents in care homes for older adults,
- individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed,
- adults who turn 75 years old by 30 June 2024,
- people admitted to an older adult care home or who become immunosuppressed by 30 June are also eligible.
If you have symptoms of any respiratory infection, or a positive COVID-19 test, try to stay at home until you no longer feel unwell, or until you no longer have a high temperature (fever).
It is important to avoid close contact with people you know are at higher risk, such as the elderly and people who are immunosuppressed.
