Visitors to the Stanley Deason Leisure Centre are enjoying an early Christmas gift – new state of the art flooring at the popular sports hall.
After more than 40 years of use, the old granwood floor has been replaced with a seamless polyurethane sports flooring solution - ideal for multi-sport use halls.
Durable and long-lasting
The floor had reached the end of its serviceable life, with ongoing maintenance and repairs becoming increasingly more difficult.
The new versatile surface, called Pulastic flooring, is designed for durability, shock absorption and easy maintenance, to ensure long-lasting performance, safety and comfort.
Delighted!
Councillor Alan Robins, Cabinet member for sports and recreation said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to install this fantastic new flooring in time for Christmas!
“We know how much residents value our leisure centres and we will continue to explore ways to improve and expand facilities in the city providing many more opportunities to enjoy the benefits of playing sport and keeping fit.”
Partnership
The £34k new floor has been funded by Brighton & Hove City Council, with a partnership contribution of around 30% from Freedom Leisure, which runs the council’s leisure centres.
The dusty grey colour has already proved popular at two other leisure facilities in the city.
The Stanley Deason sports hall has four badminton courts marked with white lines, which now include two pickleball ‘kitchen’ lines, marked in orange. The hall also has lines for a full-sized basketball, netball, volleyball and five a side football courts.
Improvements
The new flooring is the latest in a series of improvements to the sports hall which has included an upgrade to LED lighting and the installation of two new cricket net/lanes in partnership with Sussex Cricket Foundation.
The improvements are part of the council’s Sports Facilities Investment Plan, which sets out how sports facilities will be developed in the city over the next 10 years.
