The eagerly awaited indoor soft play facility at Withdean Sports Complex opened its doors for the first time on Sunday 5 May with local children enjoying a sneak preview of the exciting new attraction.
Brighton & Hove Mayor Jackie O’Quinn cut the ribbon to officially open ‘Level Up’ - a safe, fun and challenging activity for children and their families.
Following the official opening, local children, including competition winners from Amaze, were among the first to experience the facility.
Wonderful!
“It’s wonderful to see that the doors of Level Up have now opened, and children of all ages can enjoy this much needed new play experience,” said councillor Alan Robins chair of the Culture, Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Economic Development Committee.
“Ensuring that children are physically active from an early age is really important for their growth and development, so having a facility that is fun, social, and challenging will bring huge benefits for families living in the city, now and in years to come.”
All ages
A joint initiative between the council and Freedom Leisure, Level Up has been created on an area that was formally two squash courts, seating and storage.
Designed for children of all ages, the facility includes a racing slide, spiral slide, ball room and many other individual play features. There’s also sensory elements and a separate area for toddlers, seating areas, an accessible lift and accessible toilets with baby change units.
Tag Active
In addition to the traditional soft play elements. Level Up also offers exciting ‘Tag Active’ features including a Treasure Hunt for younger children and competitive challenge mode for older children.
Bookings can be made online, and weekly activities will include SEND and supervised Under 5s sessions. There will also be opportunities for birthday parties.

Developing Withdean
The development of the soft play facility is part of a wider plan to develop Withdean into one of three major sport and leisure hubs in the city, outlined in the council’s Sports Facilities Investment Plan.
Four new all-weather 3G pitches opened last month, while work is progressing to build three new permanent padel courts, due to open this summer.
