Celebrate Foster Care Fortnight by taking the first step to becoming a foster carer
To mark Foster Care Fortnight, running from 13 to 26 May, we’re celebrating our fostering community and inviting those thinking about becoming a foster carer to take the first steps.
This year’s Foster Care Fortnight campaign theme is #FosteringMoments, recognising the moments that define fostering journeys, the moments that make young people feel safe, and the moments that create memories.
Becoming a foster carer
Foster carers play a crucial role in improving the lives of care-experienced children and young people in Brighton & Hove.
Councillor Jacob Taylor, joint chair of the Children, Families and Schools Committee, said: “Foster Care Fortnight is an important opportunity to thank our fostering community, from foster carers and social workers to fostering friendly employers and other supporters of fostering.
“If you think fostering might be a good fit for your family, I’d encourage you to spend some time exploring the newly launched fostering section on the council’s website.
“One of the key moments that can define and shape your journey to becoming a foster carer is taking the first step by researching the role. We’ve created a range of engaging resources about fostering to make this process as clear and straightforward as possible.”
We have been recognised as a Fostering Friendly employer by the Fostering Network. The council supports staff who are foster carers, and those who are looking to become one, by offering paid leave and flexible working options.
