Join us as we celebrate the relaunch of Brighton & Hove’s toy library service, starting from 10am on Tuesday 4 April at Whitehawk Library.
An exciting event for children, parents and carers is planned to welcome the popular service back to Whitehawk Library, 179A Whitehawk Road, Brighton BN2 5FL, which will continue to serve as the toy library’s main hub.
The event includes performances of ‘Toy Quest’ at 10.30am and 2.30pm. Refreshments will be available!
An additional smaller toy collection has been set up in Coldean Library and a new satellite toy library established at Portslade to provide wider accessibility for residents.
Toy libraries are a fantastic way to keep your toy box full without breaking the bank, provide mental stimulation to your child, make friends and meet new people.
For young children whose first years of life came during lockdown and for families struggling with the current cost of living crisis, the service is more important than ever.
The toy library will now boast a selection of over 400 high-quality toys and games to borrow for free.
The toys have been carefully selected to reflect family life and diversity and uphold an anti-bias approach to play, care, and education for young children.
Exciting performances and activities to tour city’s libraries
To mark the comeback of this key service, our libraries partnered with Bigfoot Arts Education and Early Childhood Project team to deliver an exciting programme funded by the Arts Council.
Debuting at our re-launch event at Whitehawk library will be Toy Quest, an interactive performance created especially for our libraries.
The show, which invites children to help the characters rescue lost toys, will then tour our community libraries during the two-week Easter holiday.
The tour will be followed by 6 weekly Early Years play sessions at Whitehawk library to promote talk-for-play between parents/carers and children, as well as a series of ‘Stay & Play’ sessions at other community libraries.
