We’ve spoken to a member of the Cityclean team about his role, what he loves about Brighton & Hove and the vital role he plays in keeping the city clean and tidy.
Mark Cosham is a street cleansing operative who has worked at the council for over 11 years.
If you live, work or visit Seven Dials, you’ll have more than likely seen Mark out and about sweeping, clearing weeds and pushing his barrow. He is very popular with residents and local business owners.
Positive feedback
We often hear from residents how much they appreciate Mark’s cheery and positive attitude, and they regularly compliment the great work he does on social media.
On a recent post in a Seven Dials community group, residents commented that Mark “is brilliant at his job” and that he “has the best smile”.
Love Brighton & Hove
Mark Cosham tells us about what he enjoys the most about working as a street cleansing operative in Brighton & Hove.
Mark said: “I love Brighton & Hove. It’s a great city to work in, and I enjoy my job.
“I love meeting local people and helping residents with issues that are sometimes outside of my remit; I have shared phone numbers for different departments to assist them with what they need.
“The residents in Seven Dials tell me often that they appreciate what I do for the community.
Rewarding work
“I don’t mind the weather and the job keeps me busy and warm during the cold days. The secret is to wear loads of layers when it is cold outside.
“The most rewarding part of my role is meeting new people, seeing new faces and giving back to the community.”
We asked Mark to tell us a fun fact about himself and he said “I’m lively, outgoing and enjoy walking in the countryside. I also enjoy dancing!”
