Local elections took place across Brighton & Hove yesterday (Thursday 4 May 2023).
Today (Friday 5 May 2023), we counted all the votes cast in the city at the Brighton Centre. All 23 ward elections have been announced and 54 councillors have been elected.
The Labour group are the leading party and will make up the new political administration.
Labour won 38 seats, the Green party won 7 seats, the Conservatives won 6 seats, Brighton & Hove Independents won 2 seats and an independent candidate won 1 seat.
The annual council meeting is set to take place on 25 May, where appointments to key roles and committees will be decided.
The turnout across Brighton & Hove was 83,426 – 40.8% of an electorate of 204,255 voters.

Andrei Nicholas Czolak (Labour) and Jilly Stevens (Labour) have been elected as councillors for the Brunswick & Adelaide ward.
The turnout for this ward was 2,919 - 38% of an electorate of 7,674.
Emma Helen Daniel (Labour) and Joy Robinson (Labour) have been elected as councillors for the Central Hove ward.
The turnout for this ward was 3,368 - 39.9% of an electorate of 8,443.
Mitchie Alexander (Labour) and Tobias John Knowles Sheard (Labour) have been elected as councillors for the Coldean & Stanmer ward.
The turnout for this ward was 1,479 - 22.4% of an electorate of 6,612.
Birgit Rose Valeria Miller (Labour), Trevor John Muten (Labour) and Jackie O’Quinn (Labour) have been elected as councillors for the Goldsmid ward.
The turnout for this ward was 4,756 - 44.1% of an electorate of 10,782.
Faiza Abdallah Baghoth (Labour), Amanda Jane Grimshaw (Labour), and John Patrick Hewitt (Labour) have been elected as councillors for the Hangleton & Knoll ward.
The turnout for this ward was 4,779 - 43.4% of an electorate of 11,020.
Ty Galvin (Labour), Tim Rowkins (Labour) and Maureen Elizabeth Winder (Labour) have been elected as councillors for the Hanover & Elm Grove ward.
The turnout for this ward was 5,189 - 45.1% of an electorate of 11,518.
Mohammed Asaduzzaman (Labour), Bruno De Oliveira (Labour) and Theresa Fowler (Labour) have been elected as councillors for the Hollingdean & Fiveways ward.
The turnout for this ward was 5,449 - 49.5% of an electorate of 11,014.
Bharti Gajjar (Labour) and Gary Wilkinson (Labour) have been elected as councillors for the Kemptown ward.
The turnout for this ward was 3,555 - 40.1% of an electorate of 8,855.
Amanda Evans (Labour), Ty Goddard (Labour) and Jacob Oliver Taylor (Labour) have been elected as councillors for the Moulsecoomb & Bevendean ward.

Peter Gerald Atkinson (Independent) and Lucy Helliwell (Labour) have been elected as councillors for the North Portslade ward.
The turnout for this ward was 2,502 - 33% of an electorate of 7,584.
Alistair McNair (Conservative), Anne Meadows (Conservative) and Carol Ann Theobold (Conservative) have been elected as councillors for the Patcham & Hollingbury ward.
The turnout for this ward was 5,306 - 45.7% of an electorate of 11,622.
Steve Davis (Green), Liz Loughran (Labour) and Kerry Pickett (Green) have been elected as councillors for the Preston Park ward.

Raphael T H Hill (Green) and Pete West (Green) have been elected as councillors for the Round Hill ward.
