Residents are invited to drop into the King Alfred Leisure Centre on 18 April to find out more about plans for a new West Hub Leisure Centre.
The all-day event, from 8am to 8.30pm, will give residents the chance to learn more about the project to replace the ageing King Alfred with a modern new sports hub, and to share their initial views as part of the ongoing community engagement.
The event will be hosted by staff from Planning for Real, the council’s external engagement partners, and council officers.
The aim is to have ‘one-to-one’ conversations with those attending, share information about the project and to capture each visitor’s aspirations and views about proposals to replace the centre.
This information, along with feedback from sessions council officers are currently holding with community groups and sports clubs, will be used to help plan the next steps of the project.
The proposed new West Hub sports facility aims to provide a modern, energy efficient building which meets local needs, attracts visitors, and will enable the city to host major competitions and events.
Providing a new leisure centre in the west of the city is a key part of the council’s Sports Facilities Investment Plan.
The Plan aims to develop good quality, accessible, sustainable facilities and services over the next 10 years and includes developing three large leisure hubs in the north, east and west of the city.
Mark Fisher, Interim Assistant Director, Culture, Tourism and Sport said: “Getting the views and ideas from residents is a vital part of our approach to delivering the project and to ensure that a replacement leisure facility meets their needs, both now and in the future.”
The drop-in is just one of the ways in which residents are being invited to get involved and have their say. More opportunities will be available over the coming months and years.
