The main events in the city’s 10th Trans Pride take place on Saturday 15 July.
The day begins with a protest march, meeting in Jubilee Square from 11am for speeches and setting off from 12 noon. Anyone joining for the accessible march are asked to assemble in front of the Hilton Metropole on the seafront.
The march is followed by the Trans Pride Park Celebrations from 1pm to 6pm. These were due to be held in Brunswick Square Gardens but, due to bad weather, will be moved to various venues in central Brighton.
Members of the council’s LGBTQ Workers Forum will be taking part in the march to show solidarity with Trans, Nonbinary and intersex (TNBI) communities in the city and council colleagues.
The LGBTQ Workers Forum will also be hosting a stall at the Trans Pride along with teams from across the public sector, our cisgender staff standing alongside trans and non-binary colleagues as proud firm allies.
The Trans flag will be flying proudly from Hove and Brighton town halls over the weekend in support of the event.
We stand alongside our trans and non-binary communities celebrating the vibrant diversity of TNBI and gender diverse peoples and celebrate the achievements of our trans friends, family, colleagues, students, customers, employers, neighbours and young people.
We understand the vital importance of Trans Pride to our local and wider UK TNBI groups, to not only showcase achievements, but to provide a safe, inclusive space for TNBI people to thrive, network and experience Trans Joy!
This Trans Pride we commit to work hard to defend your right for full inclusion and trans equality. Everyone deserves to be valued and treated with respect.
Trans Pride has been running in Brighton & Hove since 2013, and is the biggest event of its kind in Europe.
The event seeks to show the TNBI community in all its joyous glory and celebrate transgender people as artists, musicians, writers, performers, as well as trans people as everyday people just getting on with their lives.
It is run by a grass-roots, community-led organisation staffed entirely by volunteers.
Transgender rights have continued to have a huge amount of visibility in the last year. Unfortunately, some of this has been negative and often damagingly misleading.
Councillor Leslie Pumm, Chair of the Equalities, Community Safety & Human Rights Committee, said:
“On behalf of the city of Brighton & Hove, we extend our congratulations and solidarity to our Trans, Nonbinary and intersex communities during this amazing milestone year for Trans Pride.
“We know that Brighton & Hove is a beacon city for trans, non-binary, gender queer and Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual communities. People come here because we are known as a safe and inclusive city with a thriving diverse and intersectional population.
“We celebrate our community’s dedication and achievements in providing this volunteer led, inclusive, safe and fun event for the 10th year. It’s a stunning achievement and speaks to the strength and commitment of our local TNBI groups and the hard working team behind Trans Pride.
“In Brighton & Hove we are proud of our commitment for Trans equality and we are proud to celebrate our city’s diversity.
“We wish everyone a safe and happy Trans Pride.”
We encourage anyone who has experienced anti-social behaviour or hate incidents, including Transphobia, harassment or distress due to their gender identity, to report it.
You can do that using our online anti-social behaviour and hate incident reporting form or by contacting our Community Safety team by emailing communitysafety.casework@brighton-hove.gov.uk or calling 01273 292735.
We’re also working with community partners to offer an option of reporting hate incidents to them in a confidential safe space.
