Work will start in June to install state-of-the-art equipment in Wild Park designed to be durable and close to that of indoor fitness apparatus you’d find in a gym.
The new fitness equipment and multi-use games area (MUGA) will be in the corner of the park, near the junction of Coldean Lane and Lewes Road.
The MUGA will incorporate football, basketball and two mini five a side football pitches, running track on the outside and a bright and colourful chill out area
The fitness equipment allows park users to adjust fitness levels to suit their levels of fitness. It’s also connectable via an app on your smartphone, enabling you to compare sessions and track your progress.
Involving the community
The team at CityParks has been working closely with the Moulsecoomb Local Action Team to ensure residents have had a key say on the development. The result will be an exciting new development that can be used by everyone.
Brighton & Hove will be one of the very few areas in the UK to have this pioneering outdoor fitness equipment, with the facilities at Wild Park the biggest installation of its type so far.
We hope that the choice of fitness equipment and MUGA motivates everyone to have a go at keeping active and, most importantly, having fun!
The chosen supplier, Kompan, will be hosting a number of fitness sessions, showing people how to use the equipment. These will be arranged, once the equipment has been installed, and advertised when available. So keep a look out if you’re interested!
Site clearance has started and, as it’s located in close proximity to the A27, the cycle routes, and pathways will ensure the site is accessible for all.
Installation works will start on this £300,000 investment for Wild Park at the beginning of June and expected to take around 4 to 6 weeks.
Investing in our parks
Councillor Amy Heley, co-chair of the Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee said: “It’s very exciting to see this new equipment on the way.
“Alongside a new MUGA, fitness track and play area being installed at Carden Park, these are a highlight of one of the biggest investments in play and fitness equipment in the city for many years.
“Exercise and fresh air both play an important in helping us to lead healthy, sociable lifestyles.
“They’re essential for our well-being and mental health and the new fitness area and MUGA at Wild Park will provide residents with a fantastic opportunity to get to grips with some of the best outdoor gym equipment available.
“With the summer months on the way, these new areas will provide a fantastic opportunity to get out in the fresh air, meet up with friends and enjoy the chance to get active whatever your level!”
City-wide play refurbishment scheme
It’s an exciting time to live in the city, as we’re separately also investing £3 million worth of funding in 45 play areas within the next 3 years too. 23 of these will be completed by July 2022, with the remaining being scheduled for 2023/2024.
Do look out for future consultations that may be taking place for a park near you!
