Council scores with greenest fan party!

From paper cups and compostable food containers to zero diesel and recyclable fencing, Brighton & Hove is set to host the greenest UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 Fan Party in the country!

Organisers from Brighton & Hove City Council have included a range of measures to encourage sustainability and support the authority’s commitment to become Carbon Neutral by 2030, at the event at Victoria Gardens.

Free Fan Party

The free Fan Party, which opens on Saturday, provides an opportunity for residents, visiting football fans, their friends and families, get together, enjoy food, music and entertainment and celebrate being part of the country’s biggest ever women’s sporting event.

Water fillers

Sustainability was high on the agenda when planning the event and, wherever possible, single use plastic has been removed from the site.

Water fountains will be available for fans to fill their re-usable bottles and paper cups provided by drinks suppliers.

Visitors are being encouraged to make use of the city’s efficient and eco-friendly public transport to travel around the city and to and from the stadium.

The polyester scrim covering used on fencing around the site will also be recycled.

Huge privilege

Councillor Martin Osborne, joint chair of the Tourism, Equalities, Communities and Culture Committee said: “Being chosen to be one of the nine host cities for UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 is a huge privilege and we are looking forward to welcoming thousands of football fans to our city in the next few weeks.

“However, we have a responsibly to ensure these large-scale events do not cause unnecessary harm to our environment, and it’s a responsibility we take very seriously.

“That’s why I’m delighted that our Fan Party will not only be a place to gather and celebrate, but a place that encourages, waste reduction, recycling and sustainable travel.”

Opening dates and times

The Fan Party will take place from 12 noon to 6pm on match days and weekends during the tournament - Saturday 9 July to Monday 11 July, Friday 15 July to Sunday 17 July and Wednesday 20 July.
