Circular is the vision of the future
Brighton & Hove is a key partner of the BLUEPRINT to a Circular Economy project.
BLUEPRINT has a total budget of 5.6m euros, of which 3.8m euros were provided by the European Regional Development Fund via the Interreg France (Channel) England programme.
Together, we aim to educate businesses and communities with practical solutions for reducing waste and pollution by reusing, repairing and recycling existing resources.
Speeding along the circular route
The BLUEPRINT project is really picking up speed in the city, with a whole host of initiatives coming to fruition in recent months.
We are working closely with other partner organisations to provide fun and educational initiatives, sharing best practice about this relatively new concept.
The circular economy aims to reduce over-consumption, design out waste and restore and regenerate ecosystems.
Why not take a look at the milestones set out on our newly published route map to a circular economy?
Small changes, big impact
By working together, taking the circular route and encouraging others to introduce small behaviour changes, it really shows how, in the future, we can have a big impact on the environment, saving our planet in years to come.
Councillor Amy Heley, Co-chair of the Environment, Transport & Sustainability committee said: “There are lots of businesses and residents in the city taking action now, embracing the circular economy and getting to grips on how we can all contribute to it.
“It’s fantastic to see that we are leading the way through initiatives such as the BLUEPRINT Project; sharing knowledge and best practice to introduce new concepts that help us to reduce, re-use, recycle and revamp wherever possible.
“It really is amazing and is going to start having a positive impact sooner rather than later.”
Calling all businesses and residents
Everyone is getting involved, and you can do the same – why not volunteer to join our circular economy champion scheme or visit a local business that provides innovative services to the people of Brighton & Hove? They’re all helping to increase the number of products we re-use and recycle, while minimising waste.

Come along to a pop-up event
We’re hosting a range of pop-up events within the city over the next few months, focused on reducing waste and increasing reuse and recycling when it comes to Textiles, Food Waste, Technology and Recycling. The last one, held in Whitehawk, was a textiles event with lots of local businesses in attendance.
It was great to see many residents learning more about the circular economy and how we can all play our part in reusing and repairing clothing that may have previously been discarded.
The next pop-up event will focus on Food and Food Waste and is taking place at the Old Boat Corner Community Centre, Hollingbury on 9 July 2022 between 11am and 5pm.
Lots of local circular economy organisations will be attending and contributing to this free-to-attend family event. Residents are encouraged to drop in and learn more about the city’s community growing spaces; how to access low cost and free food and discover top tips for cutting food waste and saving money. More information will be available soon so keep a look out. Also check in for future dates of other events that will be publicised soon.
