Brighton and Hove was first awarded Fair Trade City status in 2004.
Since then, commitment to Fair Trade in the city has grown and we are proud to have a thriving community of individuals, organisations, schools, faith groups, universities and businesses actively promoting Fair Trade.
Brighton & Hove is also home to an impressive range of local shops and businesses which actively support Fair Trade partnerships with producers around the world.
Build Back Fairer
The theme of this year’s World Fair Trade Day, on May 8th, is Build Back Fairer.
Organised by World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) and the Fair Trade Advocacy Office, the theme encourages businesses, governments and consumers to explore how, as we recover from the pandemic, we can commit to Fair Trade and build equitable and sustainable economies.
Online event
To mark the event in the city, members of the Brighton & Hove Fair Trade steering group have organised an online presentation from founder member of the World Fair Trade Organisation Pauline Tiffin.
Pauline was also the first managing director of Divine Chocolate and 20 years’ experience in direct ‘supply chain’ work with farmers and artisans, companies, institutions and grant makers.
The presentation, on May 7th, will start at 5pm. To join, use the following zoom link:
