Webcasting now available for Woodvale funeral services
From Wednesday 13 May, people unable to pay their respects to lost family and friends in person will be able to watch funeral services at Woodvale Crematorium via an online webcast.
Due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the number of people allowed to physically attend a service is currently restricted to 12. In response to this, Brighton & Hove City Council has installed new technology at Woodvale which will allow anyone unable to attend a service to watch on their connected devices at home.
The live webcasting service is being offered free of charge until 30 June and will be kept under review.
How it will work
- Families can request a service at Woodvale is webcast through their Funeral Director
- They will be sent a link and login details prior to the service which can be forwarded onto those wishing to watch
- A discreetly placed camera will be switched on shortly before the service begins.
- There will also be able an opportunity to watch the service for a 28-day period, available two working days after the service.
You can download further details about the webcasting service from our partners at Obitus.
An opportunity to remember those we have lost
Daniel Yates, lead councillor for life events services said: “We understand it is upsetting for those friends and family members who are unable to attend a funeral service at the moment. Coronavirus (Covid-19) continues to have so many sad consequences beyond the obvious.
“While this webcasting service is not how many would like to pay their respects, this will allow them to still be part of a service and to hear the tributes, memories and stories from those who are able to attend.
“During this pandemic, it’s important we continue to follow guidelines on gatherings and social distancing, but we also want to make sure people are allowed to remember and celebrate the lives of those we have lost.”
