Your Energy Sussex has joined forces with Citizens Advice to help vulnerable residents struggling to meet their winter fuel costs.
The council-backed energy supplier has used money from its fuel poverty fund to make emergency fuel vouchers available to qualifying households in Brighton & Hove and East and West Sussex.
The fuel vouchers are £28 for a single person and £49 for a family. They are aimed at residents vulnerable due to age or a health condition on limited incomes
The vouchers are available from Citizens Advice in Brighton & Hove, along with the full eligibility criteria, and are limited to one per household.
You do not have to be a Your Energy Sussex customer to receive a voucher.
Combatting fuel poverty
The initiative is part of Your Energy Sussex’s wider commitment to combatting fuel poverty.
Your Energy Sussex was set up by local councils in 2018 to get more people to switch and save money by offering consistently competitive energy prices and working hard to keep customers on its best tariff.
The supplier is run on a not-for-profit basis, supplies 100% renewable electricity to all its customers and uses the surplus it generates to build a Fuel Poverty Fund to help local residents.
Last month, the supplier provided free gas and electricity over the Christmas period to some of its most vulnerable pre-payment tariff customers through the fuel poverty fund.
Your Energy Sussex
Your Energy Sussex is a partnership between Sussex councils and Robin Hood Energy, the licensed energy company owned and operated by Nottingham City Council.
The electricity supplied to Your Energy Sussex customers is certified as being sourced from UK-based wind and solar generators.
For every megawatt hour (MWh) of electricity purchased for customers, Your Energy Sussex purchases a Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin (REGO) certificate which proves the electricity is certified as being sourced either directly from the renewable generators or through a green wholesale energy provider.
